Buzzing cicada’s, crunching gravel and the murmur of the days trade. The village orchard fruit shop was always a hive of activity in the summer months. Overseen by Dai’s late mother Annie, it was where locals came to stock up on fruit, eggs and jam. Annie had all sorts of things stored and sorted before the open sign went up every day. With her at the helm the shop was a welcoming place full of character.
Like the fruit shop, our Rose of Merlot and Syrah is full of summer flavour. The gently squeezed juice was kept cold and stirred with its fine pulp for two weeks before fermentation where 40% was fermented wild and in neutral oak (older barrels that don’t impart oaky flavours). The result is an intriguing palate that makes it a wonderful food wine. This wine has our clays trademark intensity. A round, weighty mid palate gives way to zingy acidity that finishes light and clean. At 11.6% this ones all about sharing with friends and food.
